Ashley + JD | Chicago Winter Ceremony

Have you ever spent 2 hours with people and left knowing you were going to be best friends? That’s how I felt when I met Ashley + JD on their wedding day.

The road to becoming officially hitched was a long one for Ashley + JD. They met on Twitter of all places and JD lived in Canada for most of their relationship. Once they got the approval for his visa to come live in Chicago, they had just a few weeks to become legally married. Some might think this would take the romance out of a wedding ceremony or make it less special. After watching this couple read vows to each other, I can attest that it literally does not matter how you get married or how big the reception is; ALL THAT MATTERS IS YOU! Ashley + JD still got all dressed up in their most winter wedding appropriate outfits for a few hours of portrait time, just the two of them. It was so obvious how much this day meant to them after all the hardships it took to get there and made it extra special for this to be the first big life event they would have together not being long distance.

They cried. I cried. Darth Vader officiated the ceremony. They said I Do in front of a fire place in a local pub. There were pine cones in Ashley’s bouquet. JD had Death Star cuff links and sported a green suit (my favorite tbh). I played their first dance song (Tennessee Whiskey) so they could slow dance on the lakefront. The sun stayed out for us to have the most beautiful sunset and we could see the Chicago skyline clearly.

It was magical. Cold, but magical.
